Suppose you're one of the many Lastic® fans and have kept up with our weekly publications of The Bamboo Press. In that case, you'll know that our product portfolio of home and garden (H&G) and commercially compostable BAMBOO products shares a similarity with the Milky Way Galaxy: it continually expands.
Less than a year ago, Lastic®'s BAMBOO product selection was limited to only a half-dozen straw types and utensils. However, our BAMBOO product listing has shot through the roof. We've recently released an array of H&G compostable and commercially compostable lids, food boxes, and other types of food packaging. So currently, we're happy to reveal yet another BAMBOO product.
We're elated with the product: food boxes with a tamper-free setting. Tamper-free plastic boxes are already popular worldwide at delis, take-out restaurants, and grab-and-go cafes. Customers snatch their pre-made and securely packed meals out of a refrigerator, pay, and get on with their busy day.
Regrettably, this "grab, pay, go, and eat" model has had a lop-sided trade-off. Although it has given consumers an advantageous time-management option, it generates gobs of waste because food contact can potentially complicate the recyclability of plastic and paper tamper-free packaging. While some recycling plants can process plastics or paper used for food packaging, many do not. As a result, most plastic and paper food boxes end up in landfills. However, with the emergence of Lastic® tamper-free BAMBOO food boxes, the market has a sustainable, H&G, and commercially compostable choice.
All Lastic® extrusion BAMBOO products with a wall thickness of 1.17mm or below qualify as H&G and commercially compostable under DIN CERTCO's testing methods. With this metric in mind, Lastic® has engineered each of its BAMBOO food boxes (including the tamper-free ones) not to exceed 1.17mm in wall thickness.
Additionally, the tamper-free mechanism highlights the strength and versatility of Lastic® extrusion resin. Applying such a mechanism requires that BAMBOO food boxes have flexibility and resilience like polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Those two plastics are by far the most popular for food packaging. We also emphasize that Lastic® tamper-free BAMBOO food boxes' temperature tolerance ranges from -20°C to 100°C, and also have an SGS Microwave Safe Certificate.
We've already informed our US-based clients about our tamper-free food boxes and aim to have them on the US market no later than 3Q2023. When they hit the market, we'll let you all know!
