In mid-October, the Island Leaf Team was honored to attend an award ceremony hosted by the Hsinchu County Government of Taiwan and TÜV Rheinland. TÜV Rheinland is a German-based third-party testing agency. They award certifications to products that pass biodegradation or compostability standards. While we previously wrote about Lastic Bamboo Resin receiving DIN CERTCO's Home and Garden Compostability Certification, we'd like to share the ceremony's events with the Lastic fanbase.
A little background: DIN CERTCO is part of the TÜV Rheinland Group. For about 20 years, DIN CERTCO has explored and established effective ways to test for biodegradation. And, DIN CERTCO continually upgrades their home and industrial compostability standards.
A few guest speakers spoke at the ceremony, including a county-government officer, a TÜV Rheinland Representative, and Eric Lin, the founder of Lastic. Everyone was upbeat, enthusiastic, and optimistic about the bright future that Lastic looks to illuminate.
Why did TÜV Rheinland decide to hold this ceremony in Hsinchu, of all places? Answer: Hsinchu county is home to several Makino bamboo plantations. Makino is the bamboo variety that Lastic compounds to bio-based PBS, used to make the burgeoning-in-fame Lastic Bamboo Resin. Makino is perennial, easy on the soil, and native to Taiwan. Makino bamboo plantations also serve as effective carbon sinks.
Additionally, Lastic's OEM, which makes both sheet and sheet applications from Lastic Bamboo Resin, showcased many forthcoming products. So, ceremony attendees became familiar with an array of biodegradable boxes, including food containers, lunch boxes, and egg cartons. The OEM also displayed a prototype IC tray—appropriately fitting, because all Lastic products come from the Taiwan, which is the world's leading semiconductor manufacturer!
The fact that the Hsinchu County government lauded Lastic with an awards ceremony for receiving the DIN CERTCO Home and Garden Compostable Certification goes to show just how important that certification is. So, we're very excited to share the news. We hope to earn a few more certifications in the coming months. Stay tuned!
