The Bamboo Press 14: India's Recent Single-Use Plastic Ban

Updated: May 11, 2023

India, by some measures the world's most populous country, recently initiated a single-use plastic ban that will have significant effects.
India Recently Enacted a Single-Use Plastic Ban

As we've said before, humanity is at a critical juncture with single-use plastics. Several American cities, Canada, and many other countries, cities, and municipalities have implemented single-use plastic sales bans.

Very recently, another country joined the single-use plastic ban club. Over 1 billion people call this country, which has sustained a culture for thousands of years and from which the world's earliest yoga practitioners first contorted their bodies, home. You guessed it: India.

India's single-use plastic ban became effective on July 1st of this year. But, it was in 2019 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he would implement the ban. This gave single-use plastic producers about three years to prepare adequately.

How has the Indian economy responded? First, manufacturers of popular-in-India bagasse straws have incurred a backlog of orders. Because of this, they're running at capacity, and deliveries are slow. Secondly, while India has minimal paper-straw production, Indian industrialists want to change that.

Unfortunately, low-quality bagasse and paper straws will eventually disillusion Indian consumers. Bagasse straws break very easily. Paper straws become soggy when immersed in liquid for even short periods. Moreover, paper straws feel awful in one's mouth.

Now is the perfect time for Indian manufacturers and distributors to consider purchasing Lastic Bamboo Resin-made straws.

Lastic Bamboo Resin-made straws are BPI and DIN certified biodegradable. They do not count as single-use plastic for a variety of reasons. One reason is because they can naturally biodegrade in a few months.

Within the past few months, Indian manufacturers, distributors, and traders have shown interest in Lastic Bamboo Resin straws. We've received messages and emails from potential Indian clients, and we're looking forward to making deliveries to India by the beginning of the third quarter.
