Lastic Bamboo Resin is a truly remarkable product because of its array of applications. Lastic manufactures a few resin types, meaning that Lastic Bamboo Resin-made products can be a substitute for many single-use plastic items. In plastics-industry speak, these include injection, extrusion, and blow-molding applications. However, Lastic's most popular products are its BPI-certified biodegradable and compostable straws.
Consumers in the United States use about 500 million single-use straws per day. Polypropylene (PP), a standard plastic, is the most popular material for making straws. Unfortunately, the vast majority of PP straws do not get recycled. In the most optimistic case, these straws find their way several meters underground into a landfill. PP straws take 500-years to decompose when thrown in landfills.
Fortunately, Lastic's BPI-certified bio-degradable and compostable straws present a viable alternative. In home and garden settings, Lastic straws biodegrade in about 250 days. This timeframe is a fraction of the epochal 500 years it takes for PP straws to biodegrade.
So what about Lastic straw production? At its Taoyuan, Taiwan factory, Lastic can make about 80 million biodegradable straws monthly. However, we aim to triple this production figure by year's end. And the production is almost 100% automated. Automation saves costs, making Lastic straws incredibly price competitive. In fact, we’ve had clients inform us that Lastic straws are, per unit, less expensive and more cost-effective than bagasse straws.
Lead times ultimately depend on each customer's location. For example, Island Leaf Commodities has a midwestern US-based buyer for whom delivery takes about 45 days from receiving his purchase order.
Finally, we've got customers who make straws using Lastic Bamboo Resin. The engineering team has the straw-making process down to a simple science, So, we're enthusiastically willing to provide customers with Made-in-Taiwan straw extrusion machines.
