The Bamboo Press 27: Injection-Grade Lastic Bamboo Resin

Updated: May 11, 2023

Lastic's biodegradable injection-grade bamboo resin is an excellent choice for making compostable knives, forks, and spoons.
Ready For Biodegradable Utensil Production!

The Island Leaf Team has published over two dozen editions of The Bamboo Press. We've covered various environmentally friendly topics, including Lastic's reception of DIN CERTCO's Home and Garden Compostable Certificate, future biodegradable Lastic products, and more.

Today, we're publishing a piece for materials engineers. We're discussing Lastic's LABMIJ006V2 injection-grade resin. Lastic uses this bamboo-compounded, 100% home and garden compostable resin to make biodegradable utensils.

Currently, most take-out utensils are single-use, plastic ones. Specifically, plastic-utensil manufacturers prefer to use injection-grade polypropylene (PP) to make their utensils. Unfortunately, it's challenging for recyclers to sort PP utensils from multi-stream feedstocks. This difficulty exacerbates plastic pollution, as many of these utensils end up in landfills or the environment.

Luckily, the Lastic team has concocted an injection-grade solution: biodegradable and home and garden compostable LABMIJ006V2 resin. It has a PP-comparable-melt-flow rate of 16 190°C/2.16kg and a tensile strength of 16MPa. Significantly, it can withstand temperatures of up to 105°C; it begins to melt at 115°C.

LABMIJ006V2 resin is compatible with most injection-molding machinery and, like most virgin-petroleum-based plastics, has a shelf life of 2 years. Lastic packs it in 25KG aluminum foil bags, which can be reused.

If you're wondering where you can get a TDS for LABMIJ006V2 resin, wonder no more! Just go to www.islandleaf.co/contact, and drop us a message. We'd love to hear from you!
