The Bamboo Press 18: Future Lastic Applications

Updated: May 11, 2023

Lastic has big plans to mass produce egg cartons, lids, and food boxes from its home and garden compostable Lastic Bamboo Resin.
Biodegradable Lids, Egg Cartons, and Food Boxes

Biodegradable products made from Lastic Bamboo Resin have enamored many clients and potential clients. Investors, food and beverage distributors, traders, and major retailers are frothing at the opportunity to supply Lastic products.

BPI certification has validated Lastic's compostable and biodegradable virtues. The Island Leaf and Lastic Team have not found another high-quality straw with a biodegradation time of under 255 days.

Current biodegradable straw and utensil buyers love Lastic's products. However, clients constantly express a demand for a Lastic product array that goes beyond straws and utensils. Luckily, the engineering team is currently working on expanding Lastic's product portfolio with a few future Lastic applications.

Prototypes for new applications already exist. For example, Lastic has made prototype cups (think biodegradable replacements for plastic cups at sporting events), lids, bento boxes, different-sized food boxes, chopsticks, and egg cartons.

Lastic is still adjusting the specific properties of each prototype. The main challenge is producing a product that has a thickness less than 1.17 mm. Why is there a 1.17 mm thickness limit?

Lastic must ensure that its products are no more than 1.17 mm thick so they can biodegrade in an optimal time frame, which, in ideal composting conditions, is less than 3 months. But, Lastic engineers have designed Lastic Bamboo Resin with enough resiliency for reuse.

Regarding certifications, DIN Certco recently awarded Lastic their Home and Garden Compostable Certificate! This is major news because now, Lastic Products are PROVEN to biodegrade into compost in a small-scale, at-home, backyard environment. We'll illustrate this certification in our next blog. Until then, visit Island Leaf's website, www.islandleaf.co, for more information about the biodegradable Lastic Bamboo Resin!
