BAMBOO Product Transformation

It’s almost May, and soon The Bamboo Press will turn one! More about that next week though. In the meantime, we’ve just hit 50 editions of The Bamboo Press, so it’s time for another Compostable Compendium.

Issues #41-49 explored various topics relating to compostability, other bioplastics, transparency, and the latest Lastic® products. Between these 9 editions, we also wrote two long-form blogs exploring PHA and Localizing Waste Management, respectively.

We explained to readers that PHA, a home and garden (H&G) compostable resin, can be made from a variety of sources including canola oil and even carbon dioxide. Unfortunately, many PHA products are marketed as being “marine biodegradable,” which we find dubious and irresponsible.

Ultimately, modern society precludes the elimination of single-use plastics. We’re talking specifically about plastics used for packaging perishable food. Luckily, Lastic® extrusion resin is a viable and realistic alternative to what current food packaging types are on the market. These include PLA, PET, PP, and HDPE.

A growing number of people are trying to adopt more sustainable habits. One way for them to do so is to rapidly transform their household food waste into compost. In March’s long-form blog, we describe how people can effectively manage their own waste, and how the use of Lastic® products can be a key component to household-waste reduction.

Our most popular edition of The Bamboo Press from issues 41-49 explained why producers are aiming to replace PLA food boxes with Lastic® ones. We’ve conversed with many packaging producers around the world, and they’ve made one this very clear: they all want to move away from PLA.

In April, we released many new Lastic® BAMBOO products, like lids and more food boxes. Several clients have requested lids. We have had a prototype since late last year, but complications delayed mass-production. Recently, the engineering team overcame this hurdle, and we’re very excited to start taking lid orders.

Finally, we wrote a case-study about a US-based Lastic® BAMBOO-straw distributor. Before using Lastic®, the client used PLA straws. We’re happy to get more PLA out of the environment.

Keep on tuning into The Bamboo Press, our Lastic®-centric short-form content blog, published every Friday!
