The Bamboo Press 40: Compostable Compendium IV

Fiber, Resin, Finished Product

In what feels like a blink of an eye, we’re almost two full months into 2023! What’s more pertinent to the Island Leaf team, however, is the fact that this issue of The Bamboo Press is the 40th one, meaning that it’s time for yet another Compostable Compendium. In concordance with classic Compostable Compendium cannon, we’ll highlight some of the most important ideas from the previous nine editions.

Issues 31-39 covered an array of topics. Importantly, we covered two certifications that Lastic recently received. The first was an SGS dishwasher test. Lastic straws and utensils went through 25 two-hour cycles in a standard dishwashing machine unscathed. Passing this dishwasher test means consumers can reuse Lastic straws and utensils. The second was another test, this time testing Lastic straws against German Food Standards. Like the dishwasher test, the Lastic straws crushed it.

We reported a momentous event: Costco Taiwan using Lastic home and garden compostable food boxes to package take-out food. Costco Taiwan and its customers loved the food boxes, and they’re looking forward to continuing the romance.

We also covered topics science nerds like ILC team members find themselves Googling/ Chat GPT-ing late into a Saturday evening (we’re not kidding). Topics like carbon capture, the simple biochemistry behind decomposition, and the natural wonders of Makino Bamboo all enthralled us enough to dedicate an edition of The Bamboo Press to each.

Finally, we wrote about straws. More specifically, price competition from our allegedly biodegradable opponents. We concluded that paper, PLA, and bagasse straws are all priced higher than Lastic ones. Lastic straws are inherently stronger and of a higher quality than the competitions’ straws.

Compostable Compendium IV marks the 40th edition of The Bamboo Press. Additionally, with 40th edition of The Bamboo Press on the Island Leaf blog page, the Island Leaf team has published over 12,000 words about Lastic and its products! However, we feel like we haven’t even covered 2% of all Lastic and biodegradable related topics. We’ve got our content planner fully booked into June! So, we can almost guarantee that you’ll find a fresh and digital edition of The Bamboo Press on the Island Leaf blog page every Friday!
