The Bamboo Press 20: Compostable Compendium II

Updated: May 11, 2023

Lastic Bamboo Resin is 100% biodegradable, home and garden compostable, and proven to be higher quality than bagasse, PLA, and paper straws.
A Biodegradable Array

As you're reading this post, it's already mid-September. This entry marks Bamboo Press number 20!

In over 6,000 words and 20 editions, we've illustrated, emphasized, and advocated that biodegradable products made from Lastic Bamboo Resin are superior to all other marketed-as-eco-friendly utensils and straws seeking to replace plastic ones.

Today, we'd like to review some of our main points that we raised in previous posts.

We discussed the growing number of straw bans. Recognizing the ecological threat that plastic straws pose, governments in several countries have made selling plastic straws illegal. Unfortunately, consumers still want to use straws, but most replacements options are pathetic. These include brittle bagasse straws, uncomfortable paper straws, and notoriously-deceptive, non-compostable PLA (poly-lactic acid) straws.

Why are Lastic straws superior to all other plastic straw replacements? Lastic ones are easy to use, comfortable to drink from, and quick to biodegrade. They biodegrade so quickly, in fact, that they earned DIN CERTCO's Home and Garden Compostable Certificate.

Earning this certification does not entail paying to put a pencil to paper and check a box. First, DIN CERTCO checks if Lastic straws will biodegrade within a simulated home-compositing setup in less than 250 days. Then, after biodegradation, DIN CERTCO probes and analyzes the resulting soil to ensure it's free from any toxic residue, including dangerous heavy metals.

Ultimately, DIN CERTCO's tests concluded that Lastic Bamboo Resin straws biodegrade in compost in just a few months. And, DIN CERTCO found no problematic heavy metals or toxic compounds.

We also chimed in on the dull, yet essential to buyers, topic of packaging for shipping. Using a handy table, we displayed the highest number of each Lastic biodegradable straw type that could fit into a 20', 40' Standard, or 40' High-Cube shipping container. In the same blog, we also discussed that Lastic wraps take-out straws and utensil sets in FSC (Forest Safe Certified) paper.

The Island Leaf team is always delighted to publish The Bamboo Press. Our content planning people have already cemented topics into early 2023! Every Friday, you can expect a new, Lastic-information-rich entry of The Bamboo Press at www.islandleaf.co/blog.
